Colombian court decriminalizes abortion up to 24 weeks of gestation


Bogota.- The Constitutional Court of Colombia voted this Monday in favor of decriminalizing abortion up to 24 weeks of gestation.

The foregoing, according to a coalition for the right to interrupt pregnancy that filed the lawsuit to eliminate the procedure from the penal code.

Abortion was partially legalized in Colombia by virtue of a 2006 court ruling which allows it only in cases of rape, fatal fetal deformity and risk to the woman’s health, without a time limit.
