CFE reports 59 vandalism actions at Querétaro substations

Querétaro, Qro. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) detected an increase in the theft of manhole covers and copper cable from general distribution networks, as well as severe damage to electrical substations located in the city of Queretaro because they have been vandalized 59 times.

The Bajío division of the agency reported that these events have occurred mainly in the months of September, October and November, which has affected the electricity supply of the state capital and the metropolitan area.

Faced with this situation, they have held eight meetings with municipal, state and National Guard authorities to coordinate actions such as reinforcing surveillance at CFE facilities. Similarly, care protocols were established to capture the people who commit these crimes.

With the State Police it was agreed to carry out inspection operations in the businesses known as scrap yards, to verify that the materials they sell are not the property of the CFE, because they are labeled.

“It is important to point out that in addition to the effects that these acts cause to our clients, the people who commit these vandalism endanger their lives by exposing themselves to a discharge of electrical energy. The CFE expresses its commitment to continue providing a quality service to its clients ”.

Previously – and given the incidence of blackouts in various areas of the state – the director of the State Energy Agency, Mauricio Reyes Caracheo, pointed out that these deficiencies in the supply would be related to the theft of copper and vandalism at CFE facilities.
