Centrem polls Sandro Rosell as a candidate for mayor of Barcelona

Centrem, headed by the ‘ex-consellera’ and ex-general secretary of the PDCat, Àngels Chacón, has sounded out the ex-president of FC Barcelona Sandro Rosell as candidate for mayor of Barcelona in the municipal elections of 2023sources close to Europa Press have explained.

As Nació Digital has advanced, there has been various meetings between Chacón and Rosell to raise this possibility, although other names have also been sounded out.

Those responsible for training consider that Rosell could be a suitable profile as an alternative to the model of the current mayor, Ada Colau, and that can add to the business sectorsamong others.

The former Blaugrana president was arrested in 2017 for allegedly integrating a network with which nearly 20 million were allegedly laundered as a result of the sale of the image rights of the Brazilian soccer team to a company based in Qatar.

But the First Section of the Criminal Chamber of the National Court acquitted him in April 2019like the rest of the defendants, considering that the evidence was not conclusive, so when in doubt they ruled in favor of the defendants, although by then, Rosell had already spent 22 months in prison.

election ticket

Centerm has been probing various profiles for weeks possible to lead the Barcelona mayor’s office and, sources consulted by Europa Press, explain that they are betting on an electoral ticket made up of a man “who has not had political responsibilities in the past” and a woman as number two.

So even though the name of the ‘exconseller’ Santi Vila has always been on the tablehas a political past and he himself explained that the trial for the works of Sijena is pending, which could lead to a new disqualification from public office, so he cannot commit to head an electoral list now.

The party will hold its constituent congress on March 12 with the desire to become a political space “Catalan, from the center and with the desire to be as broad as possible”, for which they will specify their ideology and programmatic proposals.

After months of negotiations, Centerm has managed to bring together people from the PDECat, Lliures, Convergents, the Lliga and independents, but not from Marta Pascal’s Nationalist Party of Catalonia (PNC) or Ramon Espadaler’s Units per Avançar.
