Celebration of Life Planned for student athlete

A celebration of life has been planned for Liam Geddes, a fourth-year kinesiology student and a member of the Queen’s Rugby team. Geddes passed away on March 11th due to injuries suffered in a fall.

Geddes was slated to graduate from Queen’s University this spring with a B.Sc in Kinesiology and had applied to pursue a Master’s degree in Neuroscience in the fall. His hope of him was to eventually attend medical school.

In addition to excelling academically, Geddes was a varsity athlete and a member of the men’s rugby program. He helped bring Queen’s its OUA title in 2018, 2019 and silver in 2021.

“He is known by all who met him for having a kind heart, quick wit, and keen intellect. He was ever humble and known to give the greatest bear hugs to anyone he was with. Away from the field Liam also helped mentor other student-athletes as they adjusted to life at Queen’s and in OUA competition,” wrote Queen’s Athletics in a release.

Geddes was an accomplished swimmer, a certified scuba diver and played many sports.

“In addition to being very close to his sisters and numerous cousins, he had an extremely large group of well-loved friends throughout his home in Kawartha Lakes, as well as his second home in Kingston,” wrote Queen’s Athletics.

Being a registered organ donor, Geddes was able to impact the lives of four recipients and their families. Through an outpouring of support for Liam and the Geddes family, many community members voluntarily signed up to be an organ donor in his memory of him.

The Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, March 19th at 2:00PM in Lindsay, Ontario. Attendees are able to attend the service virtually through zoom. A memorial for the community at Queen’s University is also being scheduled at a later date.
