Canirac Puebla plans to operate at 50% capacity due to Covid-19 pandemic

Puebla, Pue. Given the low sales that will leave the “January slope”, coupled with the fourth spate of infections from the Covid-19 pandemic, the local National Chamber of the Restaurant and Salted Food Industry (Canirac) reported that its partners are taking their chances on holidays to give your employees for up to a week and work at 50% capacity.

The president of this organization in Puebla, Olga Méndez Juárez, said that it is a common practice among some entrepreneurs to avoid retrenchments, as sales necessarily decrease, because people spend a lot at the end of the year and for the first two months. leave little to eat.

However, he said the situation for businesses in the sector is getting worse with the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections, which requires measures to be taken to prevent infections among employees.

“Except for the pandemic, every start of the year is difficult for the restaurant sector, who do everything possible to take care of the staff and forced breaks have been applied for three years, because before people were fired due to low activity, ”he said.

He explained that the businesses that are outside the Historic Center are the ones that suffer the most from the low influx of meals, especially those that are in malls, as families do go to those places, but they do not eat in restaurants.

He mentioned that this is not a good time to increase the cost of the dishes, so they keep the prices until the first quarter, so it will be until before Easter when they make the adjustments in their menus.

Méndez Juárez indicated that the price increases can be between 10 and 15%, so as not to affect the family economy, although the businesses maintain promotions and discounts throughout the year so that the customers do not fall.

On the other hand, he recalled that no major investments are planned for this year, as the economy has been “hurt” and it will be difficult to see amounts as in 2018 when 500 million pesos were made.

He pointed out that the pandemic has changed the plans in the sector and that it is not convenient to think of new projects until the infections are controlled, to the extent that it allows work without greater risks to strike works.
