Canadian TikTok users can now use automatic captions for their content

TikTok’s automatic captioning feature will finally reach users in Canada about six months after being exclusively available in the United States.

Canadian content creators can automatically generate captions on the edit page and display them on their short videos after filming or after uploading.

Furthermore, automatically generated subtitles can be disabled by accessing the ‘Share’ panel, tapping the ‘Subtitles’ button and disabling subtitles.

TikTok says that automatic captions add to many other accessibility features the platform has recently added, including animated thumbnails, a ‘Creator’s Warning’ for photosensitive epilepsy, a ‘photosensitivity feature’ that allows users to skip content, and a ‘text-to-speech function.

It’s worth noting that the automatic captioning feature will be available in British English at first, with more language support in the coming months.

This comes shortly after TikTok announced that it had reached the 1 billion active user milestone. Adding such accessibility and inclusiveness features will only increase the number, considering that the automatic captioning feature is also being rolled out simultaneously for users in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
