Caintra calls for a comprehensive solution that includes all sectors to take care of the environment in Nuevo León

Monterrey, NL. The position of the Chamber of the Transformation Industry of Nuevo León (Caintra) on the proposal of the governor, Samuel García Sepúlveda, with respect to charging a green business tax that pollute, is that a comprehensive solution must be found, and that it has the participation of all sectors.

At a virtual press conference, Rodrigo Fernández Martínez, president of Caintra Nuevo León highlighted: “as an industry, we require good air quality. In recent years we have made investments of more than 1,200 million dollars, (equivalent) to the annual investment budget of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) for maintenance ”.

Explained that Caintra has also promoted a Voluntary Vehicle Verification Program, where you are betting to verify more than 10,000 vehicles of state companies, utility, executive, personal.

It is worth mentioning that the Ternium steelmaker has been one of the 13 pioneering companies that participate in this program, which is the first of its kind in the country’s industry.

Through the Institute for Environmental Protection (IPA), Caintra Verification applies to company fleets through a mobile center, which checks if vehicles based on diesel, gasoline or other fuels meet federal standards.

“The issue is complex, there are many actors: there is the Pemex Refinery in Cadereyta, the Comprehensive System for ecological management and waste processing (Simeprode), public and private transport, as well as industry, and households, therefore everyone’s participation is required.

He added that they have already started talks with the state government and are open to dialogue in the times that the administration considers it. However, he stressed that for the industry there are already rules at the state and federal level, “which gives them powers to act with those who do not comply.”

“If something different is required to comply with these standards, it will be necessary to evaluate what is the best way to do it, the important thing is to evaluate that every initiative must be comprehensive and based on science, it must improve air quality and at the same time maintain Nuevo León competitive and promoting investment, that allows us to continue generating jobs, and brings well-being to the entire population, “said the leader.

On the other hand, on November 2, when participating in the Cities 4 Forests forum, within the framework of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), Governor Samuel García, announced that a reform will be carried out to apply green taxes, so that each company that pollutes pays taxes to remedy and improve air quality.

Regarding the declaration of environmental emergency, which he made in the COP26, the mayor of Monterrey, Luis Donaldo Colosio, Rodrigo Fernández said: “It is undeniable that the metropolitan area has levels of pollution and air quality that are of concern, at the same time it requires a comprehensive solution that must have the participation of all the sectors to reach agreements ”.
