Boil Water Notice In Effect at Fort McKay Following Water Distribution System Problem | The Canadian News

While the Wood Buffalo Regional Municipality says crews have been able to repair a leak in the water distribution system in Fort McKay, Alta, a boil water advisory remains in effect in the community.

“A leak caused part of Fort McKay’s water distribution system to lose pressure,” the RMWB posted on its website on Sunday, noting that about 100 homes were initially without water due to the leak. Later that day, the municipality said the water had been restored after the repairs, but that a boil water warning issued by Alberta Health Services was still in effect.

The AHS website says the boil water advisory is in effect for “all users of the Fort McKay Zone 1 waterworks system following a water line break and consequent loss of pressure.” The health authority said the advisory remains in effect until further notice, noting that tests and discharges of the water system are underway at both Fort McKay and Fort McKay First Nation.

“Residents and businesses are advised to boil water for at least a minute before consuming it, including drinking, brushing teeth, cleaning raw foods, preparing baby formulas or juices, making ice,” the website says. from AHS. “It is not necessary to boil the water used for bathing or washing clothes. To wash your hands, wash with soap and water and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains more than 60 percent alcohol after drying your hands.

“Instead, residents can choose to purchase bottled water for consumption while this notice lasts.”
