A British Columbia provincial cabinet minister was injured after being shot down near the legislature Tuesday night, according to the prime minister’s office.

Prime Minister John Horgan’s office released a statement Wednesday, saying the incident happened to Forestry Minister Katrine Conroy as she was walking home and that she was recovering after sustaining minor injuries.

“Prime Minister Horgan, the cabinet and the entire BC PND caucus are supporting Minister Conroy in any way she needs to,” the statement read.

It was not immediately clear where exactly the incident occurred or who allegedly shot down the minister.

Victoria police confirmed that the incident, which was reported Wednesday, was under investigation and that they were looking for a bystander who may have been detained to assist the minister “during or after” the incident.

Police could not immediately speak whether they believed the incident was deliberate or that the other party knew of Conroy’s position in government or what may have preceded it.
