Barbosa rules out that IP reactivates Puebla-Cholula Tourist Train

Puebla, Puebla. Governor Miguel Barbosa Huerta ruled out that businessmen resume the operation of the Puebla-Cholula tourist train, this due to the doubt of some members of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) in seeking the concession of that service, because they still do not know if it is economically viable.

In a virtual press conference, the Puebla president reiterated that the tourist train because it represented the expense of 5 million pesos per month, since there was not enough influx of users, both locals and tourists.

He commented that this investment will be used to fix the public lighting of the ecological peripheral that crosses six municipalities, to provide security for motorists and transport in general.

He indicated that the businessmen wanted to manage a subsidy, which he completely denied, so “if there is no government subsidy and it is not profitable, they would never enter it.”

He made it clear that the administration has not given maintenance to the tourist train and there is also no one who wants to invest in that attraction that was promoted in the six-year term of Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas.

The tourist train that went out of circulation last January had a cost of just over 1,364 million pesos, which has a capacity of 283 passengers.

In addition, the rates at the time were 60 pesos for foreign tourists; 30 pesos for walkers from the state and 13.50 pesos for those who wanted to use it as transportation, traveling from Cholula to Puebla in an extension of 17.2 kilometers.

Barbosa Orchard He stressed that his government has other priorities in social matters and the savings generated by services that are not required will be used to support those who most need to improve their quality of life.

The businessmen of the CCE were betting on having the concession under a hybrid model, that is, that it be transportation to go from the capital of Puebla to Cholula and vice versa, as well as serve as an attraction for tourists.
