Barbosa Huerta seeks cargo terminal concession

Puebla, Pue. Governor Miguel Barbosa Huerta will request in 2022 to the Federation that 51% of the concession of the cargo terminal of the Puebla International Airport can be granted to private investments, in order to make it the most important in the southeast of the country.

During a virtual press conference, he indicated that it is one of the most important projects of his administration, which is located in the municipality of Huejotzingo, which contributes to the economic development of the state.

At present, the operation of the Hermanos Serdán terminal is concessioned for 50 years to the decentralized public body Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) since October 2014, made official by the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).

The Puebla president recalled that the airports are federal, but at some point, in the case of Puebla, 50% of the operation was handed over to state administrations, so since 2001 it was concessioned to the State Operator of Airports for its operation and development, which was owned by businessman Ricardo Henaine Mezher.

However, on November 29, 2011, the government of Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas terminated that operator by decree due to non-compliance and handed over the entire operation to the Federation’s OPD.

In this context, Barbosa Huerta said that now the conditions are different, because there is a projection of the federal government to invest in the Puebla terminal, which awakens the interest of his administration to have part of the concession for the private sector.

Means

In the Expenditure Budget of the Federation 2022, the Puebla airport was included to allocate 112.8 million pesos for its modernization.

This amount is part of a three-year investment project for the terminal, so it is also considered to allocate 166.5 million pesos in 2023 and in 2024, 92.4 million.

Miguel Barbosa indicated that if there is intervention from the local private sector, it will contribute to the development of the air terminal, and it also implies that his administration guarantees security in the Huejotzingo area.

He mentioned that there is interest from private companies to strengthen loading and unloading operations, where there is underutilization of many years that has not been able to compensate, but now they see the opportunity, as long as the Federation agrees.
