Automotive industry in Chile has its best October in sales since there is a record

New car sales are not slowing down in Chile. This, because the best level of commercialization for the month of October has just been registered, according to data from the National Automotive Association of Chile (Anac). Thus, 38,551 new units were sold, equivalent to an annual increase of 6.4%, but also exceeding by 3.8% the 37,132 units obtained in the same month of 2018, a historic year for the sector.

In this way, 335,824 units have been accumulated in the first ten months of the year, representing an increase of 66.8%, “becoming the second best accumulated in the historical records of the sector,” explained the union.

The union explains that this is due to a series of factors, such as support for “the greater liquidity that persists among the Chilean consumer, which has allowed them to reorganize their personal economy to invest in durable goods, such as automobiles of various segments and functionalities. But, the growth of Imacec should also be considered, which is registering a continuous rise and in September it registered an expansion of 15.6% compared to the same month of 2020, exceeding the expectations of economists who expected a 13% increase, completing six months consecutive hikes ”.

In turn, consumers continue to choose their own vehicle as a safe and comfortable means of transportation for the whole family, in order to take advantage of the greater freedoms granted by the health authorities. For this reason, SUVs represent 42% of sales so far this year thanks to the 142,050 new units sold, followed by passenger vehicles that total 29% of new units sold in 2021.

In parallel, the reopening of trade and the subsequent increase in consumption levels have also allowed segments such as commercial vehicles and trucks to maintain a sustained growth rate by registering an increase in their sales of 73% and 72.2%, respectively, compared to the same ten-month period of the previous year.

The truck market registered in October of this year the sale of 1,705 new units and an increase of 29% when compared to the same month of 2020. In this way, it achieves the best monthly performance in its history, exceeding the 1,603 units sold. in October 2011.

When studying the accumulated figure, this market shows an increase in the commercialization of units of 62% in relation to the same ten months of last year, this being the best accumulated since 2013, when 14,753 units were registered in the same period. These results are due to the fact that trucks and work vehicles have been treated as essential.
