Auston Matthews becomes first player in a decade to score 60 goals in a season

It’s the Auston Matthews season that keeps on giving.

The Maple Leafs star became the first player in a decade to score 60 goals in a season with his second of the game against the Red Wings on Tuesday.

Matthews walked into the slot and fired his patented wrist shot over the glove of goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic and under the crossbar. He was mobbed by teammates while Mitch Marner scooped up the milestone puck.

The last NHL player to reach 60 in a season was Steven Stamkos in 2011-12.

Auston Matthews reached the 60-goal mark against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.
