Arrest of stolen vehicles leads to gun charges in Winnipeg’s West End – Winnipeg | The Canadian News

A Winnipeg woman faces a list of firearms charges after police said they spotted a stolen vehicle near Sunday Avenue near William Avenue and McPhillips Street.

Police say the driver of a black SUV with no number plates tried to evade a traffic stop by making quick turns shortly after midnight and speeding off officers.

It eventually came to a halt at William Avenue and Lark Street, after which the driver was arrested.

Police say a search of the vehicle found a .22-caliber rifle while a magazine and bullet were seized from the driver.

Police also say the driver lied about her name, but it was eventually found that he has a warrant for the suspension of statutory release.

The sports utility vehicle was confirmed stolen from the Central Park area two days earlier, according to police.

a 33-year-old woman is facing a list of charges, including possession of property acquired through crime and five firearm-related offenses.

She remains in custody.
