Argentina seeks its exports to reach 100 billion dollars in 2022

With an Argentina more than cheap, measured in dollars, the Government is enthusiastic about the numbers that foreign trade returns, and that would allow the country to reach 75,000 million dollars in exports. Taking this year as a floor, it is now committed to substantially increasing the generation of foreign exchange through sales abroad.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, presented the Export Promotion Plan 2022, which includes 280 actions to be carried out in 2022 to expand business opportunities for Argentine companies.

The plan includes Argentine participation in 142 international fairs, the holding of 48 business rounds, the holding of 58 trade missions, nine technology offer workshops, and some 23 sector positioning actions.

With the participation of representatives of various export chambers, Cafiero was accompanied at the event by the chief of staff, Juan Manzur; and the ministers of Agriculture, Julián Domínguez, and Productive Development, Matías Kulfas.

Ambition that requires a legislative process

At the time of the words, Manzur assured that “Argentina is going to end up exporting this year in the order of US75,000 million”, although the statistical data would be a little more promising: there is even talk of US78,000 million. Cafiero later argued that the goal in 2022 is to reach “US100,000 million” in sales of goods and services abroad, for which it is necessary to “add value and incorporate technology.”

To promote this leap, Minister Domínguez pointed out that “an agrobioindustrial law” is needed, which was worked out in conjunction with the Argentine Agroindustrial Council (CAA). According to estimates from the private sector involved in the drafting, this law would leverage new investments for US860 million per year due to the reduction in Profits that it postulates, and new exports for US6,000 million.

Along with this project, the Government expects a rapid treatment of other initiatives that aspire to create the conditions to strengthen other sectors. For example, the same president Alberto Fernández had demanded in November that the parliament deal with this project, as well as that of hydrocarbon promotion, promotion of the automotive and auto parts sector, and an electromobility law. All this continues stopped.

The Export Promotion Plan 2022 arises from the work carried out within the framework of the Public Private Council for the Promotion of Exports, which was launched during the administration of Felipe Solá in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has the participation of 365 Chambers and entities related to trade abroad, and that brings together more than 18,000 companies belonging to 76 Argentine export complexes.
