Alberta Country Artists Release Song Opposing Rocky Mountain Coal Mining | The Canadian News

Alberta country singer Corb Lund has teamed up with some musical friends to re-release a song from 12 years ago with a new focus on the possibility of open pit coal mining in his beloved Rocky Mountains.

The song, This is my meadow, features Alberta country luminaries like Brett Kissel, Terri Clark and Paul Brandt and others in a remake that Lund hopes will become an anthem of opposition to the proposed developments.

The story continues below the ad.

Lund says the song was first written as a story about a rancher trying to preserve the countryside.

Now he says the letter matches word for word the fight many Alberta ranchers have waged against mining development.

He says it was easy to convince other singers to join him at the launch, the proceeds of which will be donated to local groups concerned about coal mining.

The Alberta government is waiting to hear recommendations from a panel that has been surveying Albertans to see how, or if, they want that kind of development.
