Albert Benaiges, former coordinator of Barça’s grassroots football, accused of sexual abuse of minors

  • About 60 students of the former physical education teacher at L’Escola Barcelona de Les Corts tell ‘Diari Ara’ about the touching and sexual games to which they were subjected

  • Benaiges, who resigned from his position at the Barça club last week, was already fired in 2014 from Chiavas de México due to complaints from a group of parents for pedophile practices

Albert Benaiges, a former coordinator of Barça’s grassroots football, has been denounced for sexual abuse of minors, as reported by the newspaper ‘ARA’ after an investigation that has had about sixty testimonies, according to the newspaper.

Benaiges, who was part of the club until last week, performed all kinds of touching, sexual games and masturbated next to minors for two decades as a physical education teacher at L’Escola Barcelona de Les Corts. Some sixty testimonies have explained their experience as students in the 80s and 90s of an educator who went too far without the center intervening, leaving psychological consequences for both affected boys and girls.

A group of former students has decided to file a complaint. This Friday a girl has already done it and it is planned that during the next few days other people will do it. In statements to the aforementioned newspaper, the accused denies any touching, but acknowledges that he would not repeat anything he did at that time.

In campaign with Laporta

Benaiges, a relevant personality in Barça’s grassroots football for more than 20 years, was included in the candidacy of Victor Font until in the middle of the electoral contest he was seduced by Joan Laporta, who once the elections were won entrusted him with the task of coordinating Barça’s grassroots football. On September 2 he left “for personal reasons,” according to the club. The ‘Ara’ indicates that his departure took place the day after knowing the scope of his investigation.

The denounced events took place in the gymnasium of the school, in the showers or even in his own home. “I have never hurt anyone and if I have, it has not been intentionally. I have one adopted child and four foster children; I have a very clear conscience, I have never forced anyone and I have denounced pedophiles & rdquor ;, Benaiges assures the newspaper.

It so happens that Benaiges was already forced to resign in the 2014 of the Chivas de Guadalajara of Mexico, where he was responsible for the quarry, due to the complaints of a group of parents who accused him of sexual touching. He then attributed the complaints to a misunderstanding of the parents. From there he signed for a club in the Dominican Republic, before leaving for Japan with a better job offer.
