93-year prison sentence against Succar Kuri confirmed

A Quintana Roo court denied an amparo to businessman Jean Succar Kuri and he confirmed a sentence of 93 years in prison for the crimes of pornography and child abuse, revealed the journalist Lydia Cacho.

The activist and author of the book Los Demonios del Edén, in which she revealed that Succar Kuri was part of a political and business network linked to child trafficking and pedophilia, reported that Judge Oscar Rodríguez Álvarez was in charge of denying the resource and unlike others “it was not sold” or “scared”.

In his social networks, he said that the businessman headed the network of trafficking in girls and child pornography for which Kamel Nacif and Mario Marín tortured and imprisoned her.

In addition to indicating that the battle in the Judiciary is immense, he pointed out that Judge Selina Avante Juárez released Kamel Nacif with arguments typical of the mafia, “this magistrate maintains for the fifth time the final sentence against the pedophile from Cancun,” he said. The journalist took the opportunity to acknowledge that this judge is under investigation.

In February of last year, the First Collegiate Court of the Twenty-Seventh Circuit annulled the sentence of 112 years in prison against Succar Kuri, of Lebanese origin; it was argued that there were flaws in the process.

At that time, the magistrates decided that a new resolution must be issued in which the aforementioned crimes against seven minors between 2000 and 2003 have been proven.

Alberto Nava, a member of the Mexican Academy of Criminal Sciences, confirmed that the number of years and the seriousness of the crimes for which the businessman has been prosecuted do not allow him to access early release benefits.

However, the expert explained, the only possibility that the law would allow a person with these characteristics to be released is if they had a terminal illness, where the penalty is really unnecessary.

The foregoing, he indicated, is based on the state’s Penal Code and the Execution Law.

“If we say that a person has months to live, he no longer has the ideal conditions for confinement, but this is an exception. In reality, with the 93 years in prison that are marked, it does not have any kind of benefit (…) There are very few possibilities really to reverse their legal situation. ”, He sentenced.

Nava indicated that the defendant could challenge the sentence, for which he would have to have solid foundations “for this and for now, in sight, he does not comply with any requirement that would give him an early exit.”
