911, Interac, eTransfer and More Services Affected in BC Due to Rogers Outage | Globalnews.ca

An outage in the Rogers wireless network on Friday affected a number of services in BC, leaving businesses and organizations scrambling to find a solution.

Rogers users across Canada faced an outage Friday morning, with both cellular and Internet services affected.

Critically important, in BC, E-Comm, the 911 provider said Rogers customers were having trouble calling them.

The company said those who have an emergency should try calling 911 first. If the call fails, they should try again from a landline or mobile phone with another carrier.

Interac Debit and Interac eTransfer are also affected by the Rogers network outage. The company said in a tweet that debit is currently not available online or at tellers.

ICBC also reports that customer services may be affected.

Additionally, those seeking roadside assistance with BCAAs may find services delayed.

The company said in a tweet that it was aware of the problem and was working to provide help.

TransLink also reminded passengers Friday that Compass machines will not accept debit as payment due to the Rogers outage.

Travelers can still pay with credit or debit or reload their Compass cards at home.

BC Ferries said it has received some reports of terminal problems with customers trying to process payments.

The company said that, for the most part, the cards still worked, but “ongoing issues” were still being reported.

Additionally, charities have reported an issue with people who can call them.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, BC and Yukon said the outage was affecting their toll-free numbers, but there were other ways to contact them.
