73-year-old Toronto man charged with kidnapping at Royal York station


Toronto police have charged a 73-year-old man with kidnapping after an incident involving a young girl inside the Royal York subway station.

Police say they responded to calls for “suspicious incident” on April 6 in the area of ​​Bloor Street West and Royal York Road. The police statement said Tuesday in a release that a man approached a 14-year-old girl inside the station, wrapped his arms around her, spoke to her and tried leading her in his preferred direction.

The girl asked the man to let her go, and a passerby intervened by pulling the girl away, said police. The man then left the area.

Leszek Kaptur, 73, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with one count of kidnapping. He is scheduled to appear at the Toronto West Courts on Friday.
