6th wave: a decision on Monday on the lifting of the wearing of the mask

Public health, which rules out a return to “heavy measures” such as a curfew or the closing of bars and restaurants, plans to postpone the lifting of the wearing of compulsory masks to curb the sixth wave.

For the moment, the date of April 15 is still the one circled on the calendar to end the obligation to wear a mask in public places, “but we are studying the situation very seriously”, confided the director Acting National Public Health Officer, Dr. Luc Boileau.

During an interview granted to our Parliamentary Office the day after the official declaration of a sixth wave, Dr. Boileau indicated that he was giving himself until Monday to recommend whether or not Quebecers continue to wear the mask once week or two more.

“It is sure that it is really something that is considered,” he confirmed.

In the end, it will be up to the Legault government to decide.

“The decision could be made, but it’s not up to me to make it, it’s up to the government,” said Dr. Boileau.

” We, [notre travail] it is to recommend it (or not), and we are not yet firm on that, he continued. We have to make sure that all the calculations coincide with that recommendation and we’ll be ready on Monday. »
