Microsoft has announced that it is increasing the cost of Xbox Live Gold.
One-month Gold memberships are increasing by $ 1 USD (about $ 1.27 CAD) and the price of a three-month membership is increasing by $ 5 USD (approximately $ 6.34 CAD).
The company says that if you are already a member of Xbox Live Gold online for 12 or six months, the cost of the online gaming service will not change. However, if you choose to renew your membership at the end of your subscription period, you will renew it at the current increased price.
MobileSyrup Microsoft Canada has been contacted for more information on one-month, three-month, and 12-month subscription costs in Canada. This story will be updated with additional information as it becomes available.
Microsoft says that if you upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the remaining Gold time will become Ultimate (up to 36 months). Game Pass Ultimate includes Xbox Live Gold, access to all current and upcoming Microsoft proprietary game releases (as well as numerous third-party titles) via Game Pass on Xbox and PC, EA’s video game subscription service EA Play, and Xbox cloud games on Android (formerly xCloud) at a cost of $ 16.99 per month.
This is not the first time that Microsoft has raised the cost of Xbox Live in Canada. In 2017, the company increased the cost to $ 69.99 from $ 59.99.
Rumors have also circulated for months that Microsoft has plans to eliminate Xbox Live entirely or that the company would give free games access to multiplayer features without a monthly fee. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening, at least not yet. Microsoft confirmed last July that Infinite HaloThe multiplayer mode will be “free”, although it is not yet clear exactly how it will work.
Microsoft says that price adjustments will not occur until “at least 45 days” after receiving a price increase message.
