“Given current concerns about violence, we will also indefinitely disable comments on President Trump’s channel, as we have done with other channels where there are security concerns found in the comment section.”
YouTube removed a video from Trump’s account in which he had told his followers that “our journey is just beginning.” Considering the statements left by Trump supporters, the video may have inspired more violence, which may have led to YouTube’s actions.
Following the deadly siege of the United States Capitol on January 6, digital giants have taken steps to prevent violent rhetoric from spreading on the internet.
For example, Twitter has banned Trump’s account permanently, while Facebook has banned his account for at least two weeks.
