The auteur blockbuster directed by Robert Eggers may be the definitive Viking film, as wild as it is metaphysical, due to the latter’s high degree of insight into Viking folklore and spirituality. Alexander Skarsgard is stunning in his role as Prince Amleth (indeed, the inspiration for Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’). Nando Salvà notes in his review of the film that “It’s almost miraculous that Eggers managed to get the money to do it.”
