1 person killed in morning fire in Toronto’s far east – Toronto | The Canadian News

TORONTO – One person died and several firefighters were injured following a blaze on the eastern edge of Toronto.

Toronto Fire District Chief Stephan Powell says firefighters arrived at a home on Scarborough Golf Club Road just after 3:30 a.m. on Christmas Day.

It says one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while six firefighters who “fell to the ground” while fighting the flames were examined at a hospital but later released.

Powell says the extent of the damage and the number of people affected are not yet known.

He says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a tweet, Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg called it “a very difficult and tragic fire” and said he extends his “deepest condolences to family, friends and all those affected by this terrible fire.”
