RCMP officers were patrolling the fairgrounds at the CN Center when they were flagged down by security staff about a youth who had been in a fight.

When an officer approached the youth, he ran and was hit by a vehicle headed south on Ospika Boulevard. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC will look into the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest, and whether police actions contributed to the youth’s injuries.

Meanwhile, Prince George RCMP have opened an investigation into the initial allegation of assault.

Police don’t release updates while an independent investigation is underway. Public reports become available at iiobc.ca after an investigation is complete, and the BC Prosecution Service follows-up if charges are recommended.
