One bag at a time

Nothing complicated, every time I go out for a long walk, I bring an empty bag. When I return, it is filled with plastic bottles of all sizes collected along the sidewalks. My gesture is not heroic, but it gives me the illusion, very selfishly, of participating in the survival of our corner of the world. Because what could be sadder than a stream, a corner of land, a wooded area, a street corner or a park where the wind blows greasy paper, plastic containers and other waste straight from our unconscious hands? .

Awesome !

What a brilliant idea presented by Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin! If governments are aware of this type of NPO, why aren’t they already making it a model to reproduce on a large scale right now? Of all the solutions discussed in the media recently, this is the only one that really seems to be the key to getting out of this housing crisis permanently!

Decolonize the soul

The error is to associate the classical corpus with any intellectual colonization. Nothing less enslaving than The last day of a condemned man or burning with indignation that journey to the Edge of the Night. Plague teaches us solidarity in the face of evil, Germinal, the revolt before exploitative Capital. If these works endure, it is because they brilliantly translate the rage against injustice, oppression, solitude and radical inequity. Conversely, these books liberate or, using a more modern term, decolonize the soul of the reader, regardless of their cultural background. Strongly therefore Brothers Karamazov And The trial.

It’s ok to get help

Finally, I said to myself, can we try to get the guys to talk about their emotions! Already when Bernard Derome was reading the news, I said to myself: “Why wouldn’t Mr. Derome say a little word to men at the end of his bulletin which would have talked about a case of domestic violence? » A note like: “Hey guys, when things are going wrong in your life, it’s ok to get help. There’s no shame in that! » Imagine these public men, a prime minister like Mr. Legault, or Mr. Fitzgibon, or someone else who would invite men to go get help!

Loss of sense of community

I have long believed that young people suffer from loneliness. I think it’s not just the screens, though. I think there is also the phenomenon of loss of sense of community. Loss of volunteer involvement. In my youth, it was not the municipality or the government that was responsible for leisure activities. It was us. I remember that the farmers came with their tractors to build the small park and the most generous bought a piece of street furniture out of their own pocket to furnish it. We organized our own carnivals or our baseball clubs, the Saint-Jean parade and the canoe race. We did not have recreation technicians paid by the City. THE fun that we had, I won’t tell you. Our children have never experienced or will experience this. The feeling of belonging, the bonds for life.

Benvenuti in Little Italy

I certainly did not live in the same Montreal as the author of the article. Born in 1950, I lived, from 1958, in the Chabanel manufacturing district. In my class, at the local school, at least 40% of the students were Italian. This proportion was observed for several years. In addition, Italians had access, in Little Italy, to primary schools practically of their own; Notre-Dame-de-la-Défense, for girls, and Saint-Philippe-Bénizi, for boys, where my father taught. It was bilingual teaching, depending on the subjects. Perhaps the English-speaking sector was more attractive. I can’t attest to that. But to pretend that the French-speaking sector was unwelcoming? In my eyes, no.

The best promoters of local products

We must encourage our small restaurateurs who use local products to promote native products such as rabbit, duck, guinea fowl, goose, lamb and fish and shellfish from Quebec. Restaurant owners are the best promoters compared to large brands which promote imported products. The markets are opening soon, it will be time to encourage our producers. Let’s be proud to be Quebecois.
