YOU SAID SO: Ford Caves

Here are today’s Ottawa Sun letters to the editor.

FORD CAVES

Quite a surprise, our weak prime minister gave in to the medical establishment, the teachers’ unions and, of course, much of the media. Closing schools for two more weeks (maybe more) will seriously harm our children in the long run. Restaurants and bars will once again be the hardest hit by these draconian edicts as they are forced to close, leaving people out of work.

Ah, but who cares. Bureaucrats, government workers and politicians, as well as many in the press, will continue to collect as they promote this latest variant which is nothing more than a cold.

Elective surgeries will be canceled, which will mean, in some cases, that problems will get worse in the future. How long are people going to put up with these autocratic Third World measures?

IF THEY WILL ONLY LISTEN

Hundreds of millions of doses of COVID vaccines have been administered around the world, but there are still anti-vaccines that say, “Vaccines are lethal, they are unproven,” and even, “They don’t work.”

The world has seen more than 5.5 million deaths from COVID-19, Canada has 30,000 and the US 800,000, while unvaccinated people are much more likely to be hospitalized and die compared to full vaccinations. .

It doesn’t seem to matter what scientific facts are presented to these non-vaccinators, they are simply determined not to change their minds. They seem to believe that they can beat the odds when it comes to being infected.

The new Omicron variant is reportedly less lethal, but highly contagious, causing daily cases to skyrocket, overloading our healthcare systems, and negatively impacting businesses, schools, and personal lives.

Vaccinated people are fed up and tired of this vicious cycle of intermittent restrictions due to cases of unvaccinated people filling our hospitals, often delaying scheduled operations.

A booster shot has been recommended to combat the Omicron variant, in hopes of stemming the tide of new Omicron infections that overwhelms our healthcare systems.

I wish the unvaccinated would hear our doctors and nurses say, “Please get vaccinated,” so that we can put this pandemic behind us.

I pray that a new variant is not produced more lethal than the current ones. It would be devastating.

LUCKY TO HAVE THEM

In conversation with Sun readers, many reveal that the first page read while enjoying their morning coffee are letters to the editor. I notice a variety of topics that are not posted often. Politics, the pandemic and world news are still the meat and potatoes of this section. I have noticed more feel good items from personal experiences. A sign of the times when we need that reading to feel good. The benefits of these readings can change a reader’s mild depression, producing a more positive outlook.

We constantly read articles about our front-line medical workers. Even robots need to be idle from time to time for lubrication and adjustments of their programs. The question remains: How long can our non-robotics hold out before they cease to be an asset due to poor concentration or physical and mental exhaustion?

There remains a percentage of beds that must be reserved for those angels of mercy. There is no better example of professionals dedicated to helping you until your internal batteries lose the last ounce of power. Before the pandemic, I frequently experienced the efforts of those who care about others. We are fortunate to have such quality individuals included in our health care system.
