TIME TO GO A SEPARATE ROAD

A friend of mine is a divorce attorney whose busiest month is January because people stay together for one last Christmas before parting ways. So, with the holidays over, I’ll break up with you Isaac, Raywat, Peter, Theresa, Howard, Bonnie, Zain, Deena, Kieran, Lynora and, most difficult of all, Vera.

I did everything you asked me to do; I masked myself, I put on gloves, I disinfected, I distanced myself, I vaccinated, I isolated, I suffered, but finally I realized that now I only saw you and no one else, which maybe was your goal all the time.

It’s a new year and a new me. I am regaining control while accepting that you were only doing what you thought was best for me.

Maybe in time I will remember you fondly, but for now I’m kicking you onto the sidewalk, safe. we’re done

LOOK AT NEW SCOTLAND

Re: Simmering in town hall; Five Problems Facing Local Government in 2022, Jan 3

So there are five problems facing the local government in 2022 and one of them is the Ottawa municipal landfill. It’s filling up and the city has been working on a 30-year solid waste master plan with big changes that could happen to our residential collection. Boy, will that be fun, since we didn’t rank high enough for nothing.

Why the heck aren’t they talking about Sustane Technologies (from Nova Scotia), which uses garbage as an energy source? We should have them in all provinces. This company processes 70,000 tons of garbage a year, which represents an annual reduction in greenhouse gases equivalent to taking 40,000 cars off the road, according to Tom Murphy (CBC Nova Scotia).

They say they can turn garbage into treasure. Is there no common sense with our politicians?

SO MUCH GENEROSITY

Regarding Ontario’s new home vacation tax credit sham, watch out, geniuses in Queen’s Park. I had a stay here for the last 22 months, courtesy of the ongoing shutdowns from Detention Dougie. Enough is enough.

And what generosity: spending $ 1,000 to get a $ 200 tax credit; spend $ 2,000 to get a $ 400 tax credit. My wallet is hyperventilating.

But it is only for accommodation. Excludes museums, amusement parks, activities, and restaurants, as well as fuel, car rentals, train fares, and taxi rides. How am I supposed to get to this provincial vacation paradise? Oh yeah, we’ll all bike to Fred’s Motel in the middle of bucolic woods to isolate ourselves in a room with old copies of National Geographic magazine. Won’t the children be delighted? It will make you yearn for a more remote learning among the pines.

It will take a lot more than a few hundred dollars to bribe me to stay in Ontario.

The old catchphrase on our license plate was “Yours to Discover”, but now it’s “A Place to Grow.” Obviously a place to grow our debt, taxes, and discontent. Way to go!

NOTHING ABOUT BETTY?

No mention in the Ottawa Sun (Sunday print edition) of Betty White’s passing. You should be ashamed of yourself. Betty was adored by thousands and loved by millions.

Rest in peace Betty.
