YOU SAID IT: Rising costs

Here are today’s Ottawa Sun letters to the editor.

RISING COSTS

Inflation has hit those at the lowest end of the economic scale the hardest. Those who are employed at low-income jobs and retirees suffer the most as inflation rises.

Add Trudeau’s brutal and punishing taxation, and it makes life more difficult and will lead to shattered, broken lives, unstable households, and broken hopes and dreams for many Canadians who wish to succeed.

Poverty rates are increasing as taxation rises for those struggling to make ends meet. The economy is headed towards a recession, depression or worse! Under a fiscally irresponsible Liberal government.

Charles Owen

WELLAND, ONT.

(And Trudeau just keeps raising the costs for Canadians—enabled by the NDP)

SOME INDEPENDENT INQUIRY

In response to the unnamed senior Liberal minister who claims the government has to balance two competing interests (transparency and protecting national security) in sharing information in the inquiry into its invocation of the Emergencies Act — bull ticky!

As already stated numerous times by well-informed experts, there was absolutely no threat to national security posed by the convoy or its participants. Possibly some economic security issues from the border bridge blockades, but those blockades were resolved without and before the act was invoked.

This competing interests claim is merely laying groundwork to deny Justice Rouleau the “cabinet confidences” and documents he needs to truly determine if invoking the act was necessary. Rouleau has already been quoted as saying he hopes the inquiry will be as independent “as possible”. Imagine, “as possible” — hardly an auspicious independent start. Rouleau must resort to subpoenas if necessary to acquire these documents.

This is simply one more example of craven Liberals going the extra mile to thumb their noses at the Canadian public’s right to a full accounting of their actions. Or as a cynic might opine, to protect their petulant leader’s sorry a–!

MIKE ALAIN

OTTAWA

(The top priority of this inquiry is determining whether invoking the Emergencies Act was necessary. Liberals must hand over all documents that will help Justice Rouleau in this work.)

MORAL SUPPORT?

If NATO is required to defend Poland or another NATO country, what does Canada really have left to contribute? Our own defense is so depleted through neglect and our leaders shamelessly depending on the US to protect us, it’s almost to the point that we should be singing the US anthem.

BROCKVILLE

(Our leaders must ensure the Canadian Armed Forces have the resources necessary to protect this nation. The US is an important and valuable ally, but you can never truly outsource national defence.)

HERE’S HOPING

Not much BS heard from our fearless leader now that he has secured Mr. Singh and his party. He must feel that most of his troubles are behind him until he gets up to his old tricks and loses them. It may be a nice bonus for the Conservatives. What a plethora of candidates we suddenly have for the leadership of that party. Not much to consider to eliminate a large percentage of them, though. Fingers and toes crossed for someone honest, reliable and knowledgeable to take on Trudeau and his cronies when an election is called.

Just the thought of more years of putting up with young Justin takes my appetite away and dulls my political enthusiasm.

WAYNE KIRK

PEMBROKE

(Conservatives need to choose a leader who can defeat the Liberals at the ballot box. This means finding the person best suited to win back voters in southern Ontario and BC who have spurned the party in the past three elections.)
