JOYFUL OF GLADU

Re: Another headache for Chief Tory; Gladu incorrectly raises serious problems and harms his party, column, Nov 6

I am happy for Marilyn Gladu, that is to say, the Member, who is not afraid to raise the concerns about vaccination that her constituents have raised. Brian Lilley wrote that his remarks are undermining the party’s image in the public eye. Well, in my opinion, the party does not currently have much image and has already exploded due to the lack of administration of Erin O’Toole.

Conservatism is about questioning the status quo and sometimes taking positions that are not popular with many. Being a Liberal lite will not get one elected, as was seen in the last elections. One has only to look south of the border, where Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin in Virginia grappled with conservative issues and values by not being afraid to take that position.

The first thing conservatives should do is carry out a leadership review and then, if they are wise, kick O’Toole out, otherwise they will remain in the opposition seats for years to come.

(A revolving door in the leader’s office is not likely to help.)

OWNER OF A PATIENT

It looks like it will be a long and disappointing year for Sens fans after the club raised fan expectations, including opening the bank to sign Brady Tkachuk to a staggering seven-year, $ 57.5 million deal.

So far, Tkachuk and other senators seem like the same underperforming group. Will the Sens live up to the expectations we continue to receive? That is still a great question. I must say that Eugene Melnyk is the NHL’s most patient owner.

(Come on. They’re a great bunch of talented young players. They may not be winning games, but they sure are fun to watch. The future looks bright).

The farce

The Farce is with us. The grandiose announcements of COP26 by climate change twins Justin Trudeau and Steven Guilbeault to save the world will bring “energy poverty” to Canadians. Our transport sector is your next target. Canada has just over 25 million commercial and private road vehicles (your car) in the country. The carbon tax hike and rising gasoline prices have likely eliminated recreational “Sunday drives” for many who try to ration their driving to and from work. Even then, some wonder if they are exhausting themselves to go to work or working to do so.

Fuel costs for commercial vehicles are passed on to downstream customers, making the carbon tax “a tax on everything,” leaving households with even fewer dollars for discretionary spending. It’s a great way to force people out of their cars without making it illegal to drive. But the “twins” will convince you that it is “worth it” if they could eliminate all gasoline cars from Canadian roads.

Our shining example will make us the envy of the world! Going “all-electric” creates its own problems, but nothing the government wants to discuss in detail. Meanwhile, China was not at COP26. The country has more than 280 million vehicles and adds around 25 million new vehicles to its roads each year. About a million are electric vehicles, which will need to be recharged by China’s coal-fired power plants. If they switch to buying more electricity, they will simply build more coal plants. That should be a boon for British Columbia’s coal export industry.
