YOU SAID IT: Feds, 100 per cent

Here are today’s Ottawa Sun letters to the editor.

SFDS, 100 PER CENT

Ottawa, Canada’s capital, home of the federal government. I can understand Ottawa council’s and especially Ottawa taxpayers’ frustration with the cost of the protests or rallies, etc., but I believe that, because Parliament Hill is where you go to protest the federal government, the cost of any and all protests against the feds should be 100 per cent paid for by the federal government.

Why should Ottawa taxpayers be responsible for protests against federal policies, etc.? If Justin Trudeau has his way, nobody will be allowed to protest on Parliament Hill ever and the feds would be able to dictate anything they want without repercussions and violate our right to protest freely and freedom of expression and freedom of speech, etc. If people want to protest Ottawa council, then Ottawa taxpayers should pay the cost, but, because Parliament is in Canada’s capital — Ottawa — these federal protests should be paid for 100 per cent by the feds.

Yes, I know that this money still comes from taxpayers, but the feds have soaked us so dry they are swimming in money and they just spend it on their pet projects like it’s their personal piggy bank. The feds don’t have an income problem, they have a spending problem, and they are giving our hard-earned tax dollars away around the world when we have enough people right here in Canada who could benefit. Canada has enough people that are living in poverty and $200 away from not being able to pay the bills, but Trudeau wants to help everyone around the world but Canadians.

OTTAWA

(Indeed.)

ACTION NEEDED

After reading Andrew Duffy’s article “Family of boy who died in bridge jump sues City of Ottawa for negligence” (May 3), it is clear that certain actions need to be taken in order to stop events like these from reoccurring. A young boy like Vimy Grant should not have died due to the negligence of a city that should be looking out for the well-being of its citizens. Though his actions were not thought out, they should not have cost him his life and the grief his family will now endure.

(It truly is a tragedy.)

WILL TAKE MORE THAN THAT

Re: Northern exposure; Overturning Roe v. Wade will have big Canadian impact, column, May 4

Warren Kinsella is showing his real concern over Pierre Poilievre’s growing popularity. Speaking up about an abortion issue in the US, which is becoming a very divided country, is terrible media-speak. It’s going to take a lot more than your bad-taste attempt to turn Canadians’ heads away from the increasing realization that the Conservative party is going to bring a common-sense approach to government, and I’m predicting you will have lots of time to whine about Canada’s next prime minister, Pierre Poilievre.

MIKE DEFALCO

ARNPRIOR

(A bold prediction considering he hasn’t yet secured the party leadership.)

LIBERAL MISMANAGEMENT

Re: “Grits promise transit users ‘buck a ride’” (Antonella Artuso, May 3): We can ride the rails for a dollar but can’t turn on the lights or air-conditioning because of the Liberals and Steven Del Duca. Remember when people were getting their hydro cut off? We are still paying for mismanagement of the hydro and the contracts that we can’t get out of and companies leaving because of the outrageous hydro bills.

D. LAMMI

OAKVILLE

(The hardships some people faced during the Wynne years due to soaring energy costs was quite something.)
