YOU SAID: I don’t give a damn

Here are today’s letters from the Ottawa Sun to the editor.

I COULD CARE LESS

Re: Increase in school violence, November 9

The last time I was in the classroom, teaching in high school or college, my experiences with students physically abusing their educators were almost unheard of. The bad behavior, the class clown, and the unnecessary words being said were as bad as it got. It’s not that the students didn’t have personal problems, disabilities, or similar attitudes. Most still showed respect for their elders and peers, including educators.

I think they come from a more balanced home life, where parents spent time by example to teach them proper social etiquette. During my tenure, I experienced a few rioters who were legitimately punished in some way. None physically. Today, the family life and freedoms of a large percentage of young people can be summed up in my friend’s favorite acronym, CCL: I couldn’t care less. Does it sound like “give them an inch and they’ll take a mile”?

Unfortunately, all students will suffer with the quality of instruction received after any abuse of their educators.

DID YOU ASK THE EDUCATORS?

Re: Increase in school violence, November 9

Did the geniuses who run the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board even bother to ask educators what they thought about the removal of school resource officers from Ottawa schools? Apparently not. Marginalized students? What about abused teachers?

SPIRIT OF RUM

OTTAWA

(It goes from bad to worse).

ONE OF A KIND

Is there any other leader of a country who would metaphorically shoot their country in the foot by failing to take advantage of the abundance of a natural resource that is and will be needed for years to come? I guess here in Canada that means we have one of a kind. That said, what does he say about the people who keep voting for him?

On another note, we need a true conservative party again. He is not Liberal lite, and we need him yesterday.

HAS NO SENSE

Therefore, the US agrees with our government-provided vaccination certificate, but Canada does not. Canada provided the certificate to its citizens, but will not recognize their return to the country.

I do not understand.

STEPHEN ROOK

OTTAWA

(Vaccines are not 100% effective).

RETURN CORRECTLY EVIDENCE

Of course, we should require citizens who have visited the US to take a COVID test when re-entering Canada. I’m not denying those who want to play in our neighbor’s yard “kiss and hug” God knows who while they’re there. Any of the states adjacent to Canada, and beyond, has such a poor COVID health protocol, both in testing and in vaccinating, that we, here, need that measure of protection for our returning people.

Keep this stipulation in effect, Canada.

MICHAEL NIHMEY

(If it were less expensive, there would probably be fewer complaints.)

HAS AMILCAR EXPERIENCED IT?

Re: transportation return plan in progress; The city’s draft budget for the 22nd includes $ 161.6 million tied for COVID response, transit, Nov. 4

As part of OC Transpo’s totally unrealistic projections for the return to previous passenger levels in its budget presentation, new GM Renée Amilcar was quoted as warning that people should not compare OC fares with other cities. She said paying customers get a good experience on the Ottawa transit system.

I suggest that you ask a journalist to ask you, since taking office, how many times, for how long, and exactly which routes you have personally traveled, on which to base your dubious claim.

MIKE ALAIN

OTTAWA

(“Good experience” seems like a relative observation. And one that many would disagree with).
