Montreal conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin won a Grammy — his first — on Sunday for best performance by a classical orchestra.

Nézet-Séguin conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he is in his 10th season as music director, for its recording of the first and third symphonies by African-American composer Florence Price on the album Price: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 3.
The album, recorded for Deutsche Grammophon and released last fall, celebrates Price’s achievements in overcoming systemic barriers faced by African-Americans and by women in classical music.

Nézet-Séguin was also nominated for best opera recording and best classical solo vocal album. Although he did not accept his award in person, he celebrated his victory on Instagram.
