World Bank prepares loans for Argentina for more than 2,000 million dollars in 2022


The world Bank (BM) is advancing in the approval of a loan portfolio for Argentina of more than 2,000 million dollars for 2022, which is added to the 2,100 million that were approved last year 2021, said a statement from the Ministry of Economy on Tuesday. .

In a meeting, the Argentine Economy Minister, Martín Guzmán, and the World Bank’s Director of Operations, Axel van Trotsenburg, discussed the importance of deepening cooperation in priority sectors for the country’s development such as health, transportation, social inclusionwater and environment.

“The Bank lent a record $2.1 billion in 2021 and has a pipeline of projects in the pipeline for at least $2 billion by 2022,” revealed Van Trotsenburg.

He added that “the World Bank supports the country, while it continues to advance on its growth path and recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis.”

For his part, Guzmán said on his Twitter account that “this implies a net financing of 830 million dollars for innovation, infrastructure, health, social inclusion and environment projects.”

The director of the World Bank also highlighted the growth achieved by Argentina in 2021 and expressed his support in the negotiations that the country is carrying out with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the statement said.

The South American country is immersed in long negotiations with the IMF to restructure a debt of more than 40,000 million dollars, which must still be approved by the local Congress and by the agency’s board of directors.

“Argentina values ​​its long-term relationship with the World Bank, which enables much-needed financing for innovative projects that promote social inclusion and the expansion of public services,” Guzmán said in the statement.
