Workers will join the strike of activities in Querétaro

Queretaro, Qro. Workers registered in companies of the Querétaro Business Center of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) will join the stoppage of activities on March 9, compared to International Women’s Day (March 8).

The aim of the strike is to make visible the participation of women in the economic, political and social activity of the country. Among the 700 companies affiliated with Coparmex in the state, they employ about 7,000 people, of whom 44% (3,080) are women; however, it is estimated that between 20 and 25% of the collaborators join the strike, explained the director of Coparmex in Querétaro, Cnidia de la Cruz Reséndiz.

The president of the Central Corridor Commission of Coparmex Querétaro, Beatriz Hernández, highlighted that for three years, various companies have joined the stoppage of activities, as a way of demonstrating around the International Women’s Day.

“We know from many companies that for three years we have given the possibility of March 9, a day in which women have the freedom to choose how to express themselves, of course the marches are individual decisions, but as companies in this demonstration on March 9 , (they express) not going (to work)”, he explained.

In this context, they cited the study States with Gender Lupa, issued by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), which places Querétaro as one of the failed states in the national ranking that measures the conditions of labor inclusion for women.

The report evaluated 18 indicators, grouped into three categories; out of 100 possible points, Querétaro obtained 50.4, ranking eighth nationally, being one of the 30 failed states in the country.

In the entry field of women in the labor market, Querétaro occupies the seventh national position; one of the great lags in this section is related to inequality in unpaid work, this indicator shows that in the state women perform 78% more hours of unpaid work than men, with this Querétaro was located in the position 30, that is, it was the third state with the largest gap.

In the area of permanence of women in the labor market, the state ranked 11th in the country; The indicator with the greatest lag is the gender wage gap, with a gap of 19%, ranking 26th nationally.

And in the area of professional growth for women, it ranked tenth nationally; One of the indicators in which the state is located in the last positions is that of legislators in relevant presidencies within the local Congress, reporting that only 25% are occupied by women, ranking 21st in the country.

Given this scenario, Coparmex Querétaro announced the Woman Fest, an event that takes place from March 7 to 11 at the local facilities of the confederation; It is a cycle of free conferences given by leading women in the business world of the state. Topics such as leadership, finances, entrepreneurship, work well-being, among others, are addressed.
