the wiftv program is a six-month initiative aimed at helping women and gender-diverse creators “with the goal of providing the tools, training, and connections to break into the television industry.”

“This is one of the best and most comprehensive programs for emerging writers/producers in the city. I leave the first phase of the program with an excellent overview of the television market. The guest speakers have been informative, transparent and very generous with insider and critical information,” says Ana Carrizales, a Vancouver-based program participant, in an email.

The 11 selected participants are in the midst of Phase 1 of the program, a series of Basic Workshops, taking place in Vancouver.

Topics covered during the workshops include proposals, funding opportunities, budgeting, financial plans, legal, broadcasters, and distribution. In Phase 2, participants will work with a mentor to help them with project packaging for money development and/or industrial markets.

“I am incredibly honored to have been a part of this program. It not only claims that the last two years I spent building my series had value, but it also gave me access to a group of women who have been through the same trials and tribulations of headlining a production. I am incredibly proud, incredibly grateful and extremely excited to see where we all end up after this show,” said Emslie Attisha of Vancouver via email.
