Woman dies in car accident in Val-d’Or on Saturday night

A woman in her 50s was killed in a car accident Saturday night in Val-d’Or, in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec.

According to police, emergency services were notified around 10 p.m. of an accident that had just occurred on Highway 111 near Rousseau Rd.

“For reasons that are still unknown, the driver, who was alone in her vehicle, lost control of it. The car went off the road and rolled over, ”said Sgt. Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

Police believe the woman was ejected from the vehicle during the accident. She was taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

There is no indication that speed or alcohol caused the accident, police said.

“A collision investigator has been dispatched to the scene to clarify the cause and circumstances surrounding the event,” added St-Pierre.

Police confirmed that the victim is from the Val-d’Or area.
