In 79 years of existence, the Mexican Institute for Social Security (IMSS) has established itself as a measure of social security in Mexico and Latin America by offering its beneficiaries medical, cultural, educational services, economic benefits; Throughout its history, it has demonstrated its ability to respond to natural disasters and health crises. Today, with the dedication of its workers, health services are provided to 83.2 million Mexicans.

Social Security serves the largest number of the population: in the Common Regime, 71.6 million potential beneficiaries at the end of 2021 and in the IMSS-BIENESTAR program, 11.6 million beneficiaries.

The IMSS has 1,531 General Practitioner Medical Units (UMF), 251 General Hospitals, 25 High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE), 34 Outpatient Care Units (UMAA), 16 Eye Care Centers, 10 Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis Units, 18 thousand 774 operations, one thousand 119 operating rooms, 56 thousand 753 beds, of which 35 thousand 802 are registered, 19 thousand 18 unregistered and one thousand 933 of Intensive Care.

To address the pandemic, 11 Covid-19 Temporary Assistance Centers (CATs) were built: three in northern Mexico City, two in Chihuahua and one in Durango, Poniente State of Mexico, Morelos, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Zacatecas , which makes it possible to add. 736 beds.

Social Security also provides care to the rural population through the IMSS-BIENESTAR program, which has an infrastructure of 80 Rural Hospitals, 3,622 Rural Medical Units, 184 Health Brigades, 140 Mobile Medical Units and 45 Rural Midwifery Care Centers in 19 states. This program is a forerunner in the provision of medical services based on the Comprehensive Health Care Model that links medical care and community action.

In a typical day, IMSS-BIENESTAR provides 51 thousand 466 Consultations of Family Medicine, Specialties, Emergencies and Dentistry; 3,593 antenatal consultations, 254 surgeries, 27,663 clinical trials, 248 deliveries, 6,825 gynecological examinations, 1,492 cervical examinations, 1,287 cytologies, 8,241 nutritional status assessments of children under five, 1,1313 hypertension of children under five, 4 113 hypertension, 4 1313 diagnosis.

In the IMSS, social, sporting, cultural and economic benefits are a fundamental axis in the institutional work. The beneficiaries have access to the Nursery Service for more than 210 thousand children, more than four million pensions are paid and more than 9 million disabilities are granted; more than 560 000 job risks are qualified, more than 70 000 allowances are provided for marriages, and about 24 000 funeral services are offered.

The beneficiaries have sports, leisure and cultural activities in Holiday Centers, Shops and Theaters; in addition to health promotion programs, disease and accident prevention, technical training courses and job training.

In terms of incorporation and collection, the IMSS reached a historical affiliation of 20 million 620 thousand 148 posts in 2021; the annual growth was more than 840 thousand jobs, the highest in the existence of the Institute.
