Winter Travel Advisory for GTA on New Years Day

A winter blast is expected to hit Toronto when the new year rolls around and could bring with it some tough driving conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a winter travel advisory for most of southern Ontario and the entire GTA.

“Snow is expected to develop over the area on Saturday afternoon or Saturday night,” says Environment Canada. “The snow will continue through Sunday with maximum snowfall rates of 1 to 2 cm per hour possible.”

“Traveling can be dangerous on Saturday night and Sunday morning, as untreated surfaces are expected to become covered in snow and freeze.”

Five to 10 cm is expected in some parts of the city before the snow ends on Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will also drop as the cold front hits, a high of 3-4 is expected on Saturday before temperatures dip to a high of -8 for Sunday.
