An off-duty police officer was arrested for drunk driving on Saturday and was arrested.
Police said they were called into a car accident on Belmont Avenue, near Salter Street, shortly after midnight Saturday. There, they found a car that had crashed into a tree.
The driver, the only person in the car, was believed to be disabled, police said.
The 52-year-old man, who has been a police officer for more than 19 years, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .08.
“As the Penal Code indicates, he was released with a Notice of Appearance,” police said.
The province’s police watchdog, the Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit, will oversee the case.
