The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed one of their three pending free agent runners on Thursday, but it’s probably not the one most fans were hoping for.
The Bombers sign Canadian return Johnny Augustine to a contract extension of two years. Backs Andrew Harris and Brady Oliveira stayed just five days until the start of CFL’s free agency.
Bombers general manager Kyle Walters indicated earlier in the offseason that it would be unrealistic for all three of them to sign.

Augustine, 28, has played in the blue and gold for the past three seasons, mostly in a backup role. But with Harris sidelined much of last year, Augustine experienced the most productive season of his young career.
He had career-best in carry and rush yards, and ran the ball 40 times for 285 yards. Augustine also reached a career-high 148 meters against the Calgary Stampeders in November and was named one of the CFL’s top achievers of the week.
Augustine was not selected in the CFL Draft, but joined the Bombers after Tests with both Edmonton and Saskatchewan.
Augustine is one of only two full-backs under contract with the Bombers for next season, with Kyle Borsa also locked up for the 2022 season.
