Winners of the Pillar Community Innovation Awards announced in London, Ontario. – London | The Canadian News

The 15th Pillar Community Innovation Awards were held virtually Thursday night, celebrating “individuals, organizations and businesses that invest in positive community impact in our region.”

This year’s 12 finalists They are working to bring about change in areas ranging from food insecurity, equity and inclusion, access to health care, fighting human trafficking and more.

“In responding to urgent needs, these finalists have prioritized the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable and historically marginalized in our communities. They have prioritized belonging, justice and dignity for all, ”said Pillar Nonprofit Network CEO Mojdeh Cox.

“They are doing the transformation work. They have a vision of a future they want to live in and put that vision into action in real time. “

A group of volunteers selected the winners in five categories:

• Community Innovation: London Muslim Mosque Community Support Program, which provides financial assistance to community members in need.
• Community Leadership: Leroy Hibbert for his continued efforts against racism.
• Community Impact: Elyssa Rose, Atlohsa Family Healing Services Anti-Human Trafficking Program Leader, Okaadenige.
• Community Collaboration: Mobile Health Outreach Participation (HOME), which provides health and social services to those who are homeless or homeless.
• Community Choice: Jyoti Vaidya, for her ongoing work to support the Nepalese community, most recently led a campaign to reduce barriers to information and access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

The awards ceremony began with local DJ, host, and community organizer Zahra Habib.

Community leader Samantha Whiteye provided a statement of accountability and welcome to the land, virtually accompanied by nature photography.

Local singer Travae Williams shared “inspiring songs of change, perseverance and hope” throughout the awards.
