Windsor-Essex exceeds 20,000 COVID cases

Windsor-Essex surpassed another pandemic milestone on Tuesday with more than 20,000 COVID-19 infections recorded since March 2020.

The local health unit reported 110 additional cases over the long weekend and Tuesday, including 43 on Saturday, 32 on Sunday, 14 on Monday and 21 on Tuesday.

Six of the new cases were travel-related, six were related to an outbreak, 67 were close contacts of confirmed cases, and 21 were acquired in the community. The sources of transmission for 10 cases are still under investigation.

To date, 20,088 local residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Of these, 458 have died, 241 cases are active and 19,389 cases are considered resolved.

Seventeen people who tested positive are currently in the hospital and seven of them are in intensive care.

COVID-19 outbreaks are active in 17 workplaces and two community settings: Downtown Mission and Salvation Army.
