The Windsor-Essex COVID-19 death count is one person higher.

According to an update by the health unit on Friday, the region’s most recent COVID-19 death was a woman in her 70s who resided in the community.

Including her passing, 589 people have died in Windsor-Essex due to COVID-19.

As of Friday, the health unit is counting 294 active “high-risk” cases in Windsor-Essex.

28 of those cases are currently hospitalized, with two under intensive care.

The health unit is also monitoring five local outbreak situations, three of which are in long-term care facilities or retirement homes.

The COVID-19 vaccination rate in Windsor-Essex continues its progress by fractions of a per cent. As of Friday, 83.1 per cent of all area residents ages five and older have received at least two doses.

54 per cent of all residents ages 18 and older have received a third dose/booster shot.
