What should have been a busy weekend in the Western Hockey League is now fairly light in content.

On Friday, announced the WHL that 15 of their 22 teams are pausing team activities due to COVID-19 protocols.

“At this time, 15 clubs have recently paused team activities as a result of the addition of various players and staff to the WHL COVID-19 protocol list due to showing symptoms or testing positive for COVID-19,” said WHL it’s a statement. .

The league says teams are responsible for monitoring players and staff daily for COVID symptoms.

The WHL says that if a player or staff member exhibits symptoms, a quick test is done and that person is isolated. If the test is positive, a PCR test is performed to confirm the first test.

“If there are multiple positive rapid antigen test results for COVID-19, all team activities are immediately paused,” the league said.

“The entire team completes a round of PCR testing and isolates until the results are received and the WHL medical director learns of the situation.”
