White Night 2021, artistic-sport hiking version

The veil on the program of the Nuit blanche 2021, the great Parisian night stroll devoted to contemporary art, was only lifted at the last moment. We learned before the summer that Sandrina Martins, director of the Carreau du Temple (Paris 3e), a place that combines art and sport, and Mourad Merzouki, figure of hip-hop and director of the National Choreographic Center of Créteil (Val-de-Marne), were appointed to the artistic direction of this 20e editing.

Already, the choice of the duo reflected the desire to link intra-muros Paris with Greater Paris, and the promise of multidisciplinary artistic approaches. Paris City Hall delivers exclusively to “World” the outlines of this new version of the fall meeting, which will be nourished by a dialogue between art and sport.

“This night of October 2 to 3 will have a triple dimension, summarizes Carine Rolland, the cultural assistant. It will be about celebrating the reunion with artistic life after a very constrained year, to celebrate the anniversary edition and to be part of the start of the Cultural Olympiad, in view of the 2024 Olympic Games, in Paris. “ In this perspective, the body has been placed at the center of the public space and the devices, and the urban artistic walk will take place mainly on the GR 75 Grande Randonnée trail, inaugurated in 2017 and still largely unknown, to discover heritage. cultural and sporting bordering the capital.

Dance and walk

The starting line will be the Esplanade du Trocadéro, where Mourad Merzouki will orchestrate a participatory and connected dance between ten district town halls and four places in the metropolis (in Alfortville, Aubervilliers, Créteil and Rueil-Malmaison), broadcast live on screens giants, and followed by a demonstration by the French breakdance team. Then the dance steps will be followed by walking, between physical activity and contemplation. While a complete loop of the 50 km of the GR 75 will be organized from noon to 10 p.m., alongside other walks between Paris and the cities of Greater Paris, the three major routes of Nuit blanche will take the form of short hikes, 7 pm in the early morning, along this bordering path.

The “West Course”, in the 16e arrondissement, will start from Roland-Garros, where a series of videos by artists related to sport will be screened, to the Basque pelota club Le Trinquet, with a “roller dance party”, via the garden des Serres d’Auteuil, the Jean-Bouin stadium and the Parc des Princes, over a dozen works, produced in particular by Julien Prévieux and Ange Leccia.
