Whitby man, 30, charged with killing his missing mother and grandmother

A 30-year-old Whitby man is now accused of killing his mother and grandmother, even though the young ladies have yet to be found.

Durham Regional Police say Joshua Burton has been charged with two counts of second degree murder.

“The suspect is the son and grandson of the missing women,” the acting sergeant said. George Tudos said on Saturday. “He was arrested in Oshawa on Friday afternoon.”

The defendant’s mother, Ava Burton, 58, and her mother, Tatilda Noble, 85, were reported missing from their home on Scepter Pl. – near Thornton rd. N. and Taunton Rd. W.- October 14.

All three reportedly lived at the Whitby home.

Tudos said the two women have not yet been located “but they are presumed dead.”

“The police are still looking for clues to help them find his remains,” he said. “This is an ongoing investigation.”
