When partisanship wins, we all lose, by Luz Martínez Seijo

Possibly, the majority of citizens think that they have never been so polarized the political situation in Spain and it is no wonder. Every day we are faced with a new political row, demagoguery, disagreements instead of agreements, a hyperbolic and lacking language, & mldr; but no matter how much noise there is, must win the policy aimed at citizenship.

I recently wrote Núñez Feijóo, President of the Xunta in Galicia: “Spain is waiting for the Popular Party, a party that is synonymous with freedom, growth and defense of our institutions.” A couple of phrases that do not match the image that this PP is transferring to citizenship Either Galicia is very far from Madrid or the glasses that he uses make it enormously distort the reality that others see.

Not even the PP is synonymous with freedom, but restrictions for almost everything in life. Not even Spain expects the PP, but rather it scares him (even more so because of his harmony with Vox). Neither is the PP a party that defends the institutions, rather the opposite, as shown by its blockade of the renewal of the members of the General Council of the Judiciary or with its multiple plots of institutional corruption.

This example serves to illustrate that the image that is projected politically is that, pure image, use of various slogans to attract voters; partisanship, but not politics.

The right is passionate ‘lately’ for freedom, when what it really demands is the guarantee of maintain privileges; They speak of growth when their growth really implies ‘growing a few and losing the great majority’, and they claim to defend the institutions, but they do not practice it when they are in opposition and limit it only to when they govern, as has happened with the years-stagnant renewal of constitutional bodies.

What about the numerous attempts to Pablo Casado, installed in trying to boycott Spain! It hinders the European funds arrive in Spain, question our democratic functioning, or try to overturn the new framework of labor relations that the Government agrees with the social agents.

However, a policy focused on respect is one that is committed to modernization of the economy and society, avoiding the emergence of new gaps or the perpetuation of the old ones. It is about passing pending subjects, such as ecological and digital, while combating the existing gaps between the privileged and the marginalized, between men and women, between the elderly and the young, between cities and the rural world. But the revolution of I respectAbove all, it must be based on the defense of the rights and freedoms of the individual to function in the social framework with dignity and tolerance. Respect is a right and also a citizen obligation.

All this is what to expect from un political project for the future, no boycotts, or anger. Because doing politics based simply on the counter and partisanship does not enlarge Spain, but rather dwarfs the dimension and greatness of politics, made to transform and improve our society.

´Lack of respect appears when you bet on outlining policies that for some are contradictory and are rejected outright. There the latent aggressiveness appears. Lack of respect appears when the traditional reality that causes the social and political gap is rejected.

Conservatives fight tooth and nail to defend their model. Y they think it belongs to themThey do not accept changes or differences, they do not accept that others rule. It is then when they speak of defending their freedoms, which are nothing more than the changes that democracy brings with it and which they have not just accepted. They consider that the social framework cannot be violated and they only allow minimal makeup changes, because their defense is an uncompromising defense of the pillars of their social and life model, theirs, not that of the majority.

No, there is not a problem in Spain of freedoms, quite the opposite, lIndividual freedoms and rights are significantly increased when the left rules. The media and political noise, repeating a lie a thousand times or distorting the use of certain words do damage the pillars of our democracy. That is why it is so important to reaffirm ourselves in what we think and do as Machado said: “Let’s walk once and for all without crutches and put an end to that inferior Spain that prays and attacks, when it deigns to use its head & rdquor ;.
