What vehicles do not circulate on Tuesday, May 3 due to environmental contingency?

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) activated Phase 1 of the atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, so that on Tuesday, May 3, restrictions on vehicle circulation will be implemented in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

Around 5:00 p.m. this Monday, May 2, the CAMe detailed that they were registered maximum ozone concentrations that exceeded 155 ppb (parts per billion) at the Benito Juárez, CCA-UNAM, Santa Fe, Pedregal, Iztacalco and UAM Iztapalapa monitoring stations, located in the Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Álvaro Obregón, Iztacalco and Iztapalapa municipalities.

The agency warned that adverse conditions are expected for the dispersion of ozone and its precursors on Wednesday “due to the influence of the high atmospheric pressure system on the Valley of Mexico, so poor to very poor air quality is expected.”

The vehicles that must suspend their circulation from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. this Wednesday are:

  • Vehicles for private use with verification hologram 2.
  • Vehicles for private use with type 1 verification hologram whose numerical digit is 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and those whose license plate is made up only of letters.

The Phase 1 of environmental contingency it has the objective of reducing the population’s exposure to polluted air and the risk of affecting health; in addition to reducing the generation of pollutants and the probability of reaching high concentrations of ozone again in the coming days.
